A Week in the Eyes of an Apprentice

Tom Cavinder 16 June, 2015

We recently had our new apprentice Tom start with us here in the Integrity office. His role is to create an E-learning program, to assist our other apprentices with their learning.  Tom has written about his first week ,what he has been doing, and what he is looking to achieve.

This is Tom's first week story,

So far my experience in this apprenticeship has been fantastic, I’ve been given all of the tools, equipment, and software I need to work. I’ve had plenty of time to get acquainted with what I need to be doing, and clear instructions on exactly what it is that I am and will be doing. On Monday 8th I started my first day, I spent my time getting to know the office, the equipment, and my new colleagues, also getting the initial impression of the software and what I’ll be doing with it.
On Tuesday, most of my day was spent familiarising myself with Adobe Captivate, the software which will be my main tool for the weeks to come. I was given a basic layout to follow, and applied myself into learning how to use the tools available on Captivate to complete a basic template.
Wednesday, I continued what I started the previous day, except for the fact that the template was in a far more advanced and good-looking state by the end of the day. I started to feel confident in my abilities to use all of the basic parts of Captivate 8.
Following this I started to work on my new project, creating slides for the E-Learning program and making them both look nice but function well. At the end of the day I learned the sheer size of the project I’d just embarked upon, and wasn’t daunted because of the self-training I’d put myself through in how to use Captivate.
On Friday, I spent most of the morning performing several Assessments for my functional skills, which were all rather easy to do, up until just before lunchtime. After lunch, I then started to put in a great deal of work on the E-Learning program, and have already completed over 30 slides.
So far I’ve found that everybody here is very welcoming and the office has a friendly atmosphere, with all of my needs and questions answered. I find myself looking forward to what the next week will bring, hoping to learn something new as well as accomplish the goal I set on Monday.
