Why working in a team is great!

23 June, 2016

Starting an apprenticeship is very exciting but for some people certain elements of it such as working in a team may seem daunting.

Teamwork will be a vital part of your apprenticeship and it will be a great transferable soft skill that you can personally develop and apply to any future job roles. It’s natural to have apprehensions about entering a new team as this may be unfamiliar to you or you may just be a shy person. However, working in a team has so many great benefits that you may not have considered. By the end of this article, you will realise that you have nothing to worry about at all!

Support each other

First of all, your team will support your ideas and help you achieve your goals. Sometimes there are tasks that can’t be completed on your own so with a bit of help from your team, you will be able to be more productive and be more successful. This could be either supporting you mentally in stressful situations or by teaching you new skills throughout your apprenticeship. Having a team that support your ideas and encourages you will improve your confidence.

Stick together

No matter what happens, you and your team will stick together. It’s a great feeling to have people to celebrate with when something has been successful and it also makes a huge difference to have teammates to lean on when things don’t go to plan.

Improve creativity and inspire

Sharing ideas with your team will boost your creativity, as you will be encouraged to think outside of the box. Each member of the team will have their own unique skills, ideas and point of view to inspire you and once they are shared with the rest of the team, you can work together to solve problems effectively. This sort of experience can increase your confidence and help you achieve much more than you thought possible.

Having a team to socialise with when you are at work will make your day much more enjoyable. You will spend a lot of time with your team and it won’t take long for you to start forming genuine friendships. These friendships don’t just stop at work, some teammates can become friends for life.

Working in a team can be very rewarding. You may be an apprentice and learning new skills but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to offer fresh expertise to other employees. For example, a younger apprentice may be more knowledgeable about new technologies and can pass this knowledge on to other teammates. This can make you an asset to the team and will be a very rewarding feeling.

Good skill for your CV

Being able to work effectively in a team is a very important soft skill that most recruiters look for. An apprenticeship will give you the experience and confidence you need to progress your career in the long run. You will learn the value of working together and be able to demonstrate this in future interviews.

So there you have it, some excellent reasons why working in a team is actually great and very necessary.
